Visit Serbia - 8 days programme

Program 2014: "SERBIA for all!"

Day 1 - Flight to Belgrade. On arrival transfer to hotel. DINNER. Overnight.

Day 2 – BREAKFAST at hotel. Spend the day touring Belgrade including the Kalemegdan archaeological and historical park, the old town with professional tour guide. In the evening special DINNER at National restaurant at the bohemian Skadarlija quarter. Overnight.

 

Day 3 – BREAKFAST at hotel. Drive north to Sremski Karlovci stopping on route to visit 16th-century Krusedol Monastery. In Sremski Karlovci see the Baroque Four Lions Fountain, fine Cathedral and visit a wine cellar. Continue to Petrovaradin Fortress, “Gibraltar on the Danube” with its huge defences, clock tower and subterranean galleries and then to Novi Sad, termed the “most westerly city in eastern Europe” and “the most easterly city in western Europe” such is its diverse mix of peoples. DINNER and overnight at picturesque Lake Palic hotel.

 

Day 4 – BREAKFAST at hotel. Drive to Subotica on the Pannonian Plain. The tour includes the art nouveau town hall, synagogue and theatre on the Hungarian border. Continue to Fantast Castle. Visit the village of Kovacica to see the Galerija naivne utmetnosti. Return to Belgrade at the same hotel. DINNER and overnight.

 

Day 5 – BREAKFAST at hotel. Drive and visit Nikolje Monastery to see the frescoes then continue to Uzice. Visit Stari Uzice Fortress and Jokanovica House. Continue to Sirogojno ethnic village museum and then to the Zlatibor Mountains. DINNER and overnight at hotel.

 

Day 6 – BREAKFAST at hotel. Drive to Mokra Gora and board the tiny train for the figure of eight loop railway ride, passing old wooden villages on its steep descent. Travel by way of distinctive rusty-red Zica Monastery. Continue to remote Studenica Monastery, crowning achievement of the Orthodox Church in Serbia with its great religious art and traditions. Drive to Vrnjacka Spa. DINNER and overnight.

 

Day 7 – BREAKFAST at hotel. Visit the magnificent timbered Ljubostinja Monastery with its intricate external carvings. Visit the medieval 13th-century Serbian capital of Krusevac with Prince Lazar’s Court, Donjon Tower and ramparts Drive and view scenic castle-like Manasija Monastery, Ravanica Monastery. Drive to Nis. DINNER and overnight at hotel.

 

Day 8 – BREAKFAST at hotel. Morning city tour of Roman Naissus, birthplace of Constantine the Great, including the Ottoman fortifications and the grim Skull Tower memorial erected by the Turks after the Serb uprising in the Battle of Cegar of 1809. In the afternoon drive to Mediana, to view the ruins of Constantine’s luxurious villa with surviving mosaics and the museum. Drive back to Belgrade. Transfer to airport. End of services.
